We gathered at the historic White Horse extravaganza on a windy day.
The kids built kites while the adults found space to stand.
Then, we headed outside for a scavenger hunt, thinking we’d done well, but actually coming in last. Afterward, we enjoyed a piñata filled with candy, made by Sophia’s mom. The kids loved it, and the sweets disappeared in seconds. Despite the wind and surprises, we had a fun day together!
Later we went out to our favorite local restaurant in our usual seat and celebrated some more. I got them to decorate his dessert rather than bring a random birthday dessert.
I used AI to actually create this beautiful image, then just put our little faces on it. So cool we can do this now! Somehow, we didn’t take a picture of the 2 of us.
Sophia and I made some lovely sugar cookies with icing and sprinkles! Of course, I tried to give away as many as possible. When they’re in the house, I’ll just eat them!!!
Our Latin dance community partnered with a visiting artist and art gallery to put on a salsa dancing event. It was fun dancing however it was not much of an art purchasing crowd. Once the auction started, nothing happened and they had to stop the auction and try again later.
We were supposed to spend the last week in Graz. It was going to be our time, just the two of us. Lothar had tons of places he wanted to show me there and in the surrounding areas. We had shopping days planned, and possibly a ski trip.
We stayed in Gunther’s spare apartment. It was small but had everything you needed, and we kept it cozy and warm.
However, instead of any of those plans, we both got terribly sick! It ended up being our sick house. 🙁 I can’t remember the last time I was this sick. It was an extreme sore throat, then fever, then terrible stuffiness. It was hard to get any sleep!
Finally, with just 2 days to go, we dragged ourselves back to Vienna, to be sick some more, but this time with Zoe! LOL I was a lot better before we left, but Lothar was still in the thick of it and had the most miserable flight home ever. We were so happy to get home and sleep in our own bed. Yay!
Starting with a search for cold medicine 🙂 We went to the nearest pharmacy, but it was closed. However, they had a nice display on the door showing nearby open pharmacies! So, we drove to the first one, and it was open! Now we’re all set.
We walked to the main squares and along the streets. It’s all very beautiful and magical, lit up with lights everywhere. People are outstanding, walking, and having a great time! Fireworks are not allowed, but once in a while, everyone would jump because someone fired off a single firework close by. We stopped at a sausage stall and had the awesome cheese sausage with mustard, then walked some more!
We ended up in the main square in front of the city hall, where they were having a water, light, and fire show for midnight. Lothar was quickly running out of steam, but fortunately, they were doing a show every hour! So we just waited 12 minutes and enjoyed the event. It was really well done! We stood near the front, but once we started getting too wet, we backed off. LOL
We ended with going back to the apartment, and doing our own quick little Happy New Year cheer, and off to sleep!
