Area 51 – Home of The Internet

May 10, 2023 – Las Vegas

Area 51 is a ways off the main strip, but it’s somewhere we were recommended to go check out during the day, when there are no shows going on. It’s like a big warehouse building, but they’ve made it into a place with tons of activities and creating environments to experience.

Inside there was a place called Omega mart. It’s like a parody supermarket, with crazy products like “great smoky muttons” and such.

But as you explore, you can find secret passages and doors that take you to a whole other world of creative spaces.

We also found where they keep The Internet. LOL

The Food!

May 9, 2023 – Las Vegas

I must start with our favourite restaurant. It’s Din Tai Fung at the Aria hotel. They make these dumplings that have broth trapped inside, and when you bite into it it bursts in your mouth! Even chocolate ones for dessert. We loved it so much, we ate there twice!

We had many nice meals at the various other hotels on the strip. One was at a place that had these enormous screens for tracking all kinds of sporting events at one time, and betting on them.

And of course there were some desserts at little cafes along the way.

The Shows!

May 9, 2023 – Las Vegas

Of course in Las Vegas, the main thing you do is see shows. We saw Cirque du Soleil “O”. It’s all water based, with a pool that has platforms in it that rise and lower, and many people doing acrobatics and diving in to the water. No photos allowed, of course, so we just have us and the lovely ceiling before the show started.

Then there was RuPaul’s Drag Race. They did it like an episode, with a maxi challenge and mini challenge.

The queens in the show were Alexis Mateo, Dia Betty, Jorgeous, Coco Montrese, Britney (oops! I mean Derick), and the host was Asia!

Of course, can’t forget the pit crew, and the gift shop on the way out!

Finally, we saw Fantasy. The classic dancing girls. It was surprisingly fun!

Also we saw the more mundane type of show… a movie in a big theatre with amazing reclining seats!

Las Vegas Trip – Other Hotels and the Strip

May 8, 2023 – Las Vegas

During our days in Las Vegas, we noticed there isn’t that much to do during the day. All the shows are at night. So we did a lot of walking and checked out the lobbies of the other big hotels on the strip.

These were closer to our end of the strip.

Aria was really eye-catching. Just very creative, inspiring and high end. This is where we found our favourite restaurant!

Belagio was just over the top beautiful.  The pictures just don’t convey the beautiful sounds and atmosphere in this space. The enchanged gardens in the lobby, the intricate floor tiles, the glass flower ceiling… just stunning! What an ambiance. You really feel like you’re in some flowery paradise!

The strip at night, and Hell’s Kitchen too!

Caesar’s Palace is one that I remembered well. When I visited a long time ago, they actually had Roman Centurians standing around looking impressive. There’s none of that anymore, but there’s still the indoor sky and upscale Forum Shops!

At the end of the strip, Harrah’s and Mirage, which is where I stayed once upon a time when they still had Sigfried and roy and their Siberian tigers.

Las Vegas – Our Hotel

May 7, 2023 – Las Vegas

The pyramid in the daytime. When we first arrived, they “upgraded” us to a slightly larger room. We took the upgrade, but when we got there, we found out the new room was in the tower part of the hotel, not in the pyramid!! It felt like being on a work trip. So we “un-upgraded”, and moved back into the pyramid on the 2nd day.

The rooms are pretty standard, but the cool thing is you have slanted windows!

It looks really cool at night too, with the Sphynx out front.

On the inside, you can take elevators that move on an angle to get you to the higher levels. The vews from the top on the inside are really cool!

And in the middle there’s a raised level where there are more shops, shows and attractions. I loved it! Oh, and those are the new earrings sweetie got me. 🙂

Las Vegas Trip – Arriving

May 7, 2023 – Las Vegas

The trip there… took a taxi to the airport, lunch at Phily airport, then some very cool sights from the plane! The video is actually lightning happening in the clouds!

Then we arrive in Las Vegas…

And check in to our hotel, the Luxor. It’s the pyramid, and ever since my first visit to Last Vegas it’s always been a dream to one day stay there. And here we are!!

Deja View

March 25, 2023– Bermuda

Deja View is actually a new restaurant that has opened here in Bermuda. This doesn’t happen very often, so it was a real treat for us to go and check it out for the first time.

Here are some of the great dishes we enjoyed.

And of course, we came back another time and sat outside! They have a lovely garden with a view of the harbor and boats in the marina.

Zoë Art Exhibit

March 17, 2023 – Bermuda

For her graduating year, ZoĂ« was tasked with creating an entire art exhibit. I wasn’t able to go to the main opening, but I got a private viewing later on instead!

And there was a theme behind the entire display.

I was super impressed with her work. All of the pieces had cohesion and just like any full-fledged art gallery, each piece had a descriptive text telling you what the artwork was about. It just looks like so much work to produce all those pieces to put all the thought behind it and then all the structure of the hand-knitted spider webs that link it all together. Amazing work Zoë!
